The situation in southern Syria has become critical, with an enormous offensive now underway, threatening the estimated 750,000 civilians in the area. The United Nations (UN) has already estimated that nearly 45,000 people have been forcibly displaced due to the fighting, which is expected to drastically intensify in the coming days. Further exacerbating the situation is that Jordan has stated it will close the border with Syria and no longer receive any more refugees, essentially trapping those in a war zone.
Human Care Syria, alongside the WATAN Foundation, are on the ground in southern Syria, and we have launched an Emergency Appeal intending to immediately provide aid to those affected by the crisis. We are currently conducting a needs assessment on the ground and intend to focus on the provision of shelter and support to displaced persons, while our focus will evolve according to developments. Any donations to the Emergency Appeal will be vital to the effort throughout this critical period.
